UNBA's goals are to provide technical assistance, support and advocacy to Upper Northside businesses. Thanks to donations from neighbors, businesses and foundations, we've been able to donate business relief grants to support businesses impacted by civil unrest in 2020.

$40K Awarded to Upper Northside Businesses


UNBA awarded $40,000 in grants to 4th Ward businesses vandalized during the civil unrest of 2020. The businesses - Black, Women & POCI owned and operated were the recipients of our first round of grant awards made possible by a grant from the Minneapolis Realtor Association and generous donations from community members.


The Business awarded are:


Boost Mobile - Bunmi Simpeh - Boost Mobile - $10,000

Anna Donato-Ghani - Emily's/Pickles Cafe $10,000

Mahmoud Rammouni - Boost Mobile - $5,000

Kevin Aidwalk - Webber Market - $5,000

Kester Wubben - Mailbox Solutions - $10,000


These businesses endured a range of impact including theft, vandalism, loss of wages and fire. A tiered award system was adopted and applicants were selected from a pool of applications. UNBA plans to announce additional grant rounds in 2021.

MARS awards $35,000 to UNBA!

We're thrilled to receive a grant from the Minneapolis Area Realtors' Association to support our grant program to help Upper Northside businesses damaged during the civil unrest in 2020. Their support not only enabled us to expedite grants to impacted businesses, but supports our operations as we ramp up to support businesses now and in the future!
